In September 2017, Black Foxes UK was approached with a request that would change the lives of two young silver foxes forever. A UK hobby breeder, facing significant health difficulties, made the responsible and compassionate decision to cease breeding and sought our help in finding loving homes for the foxes in their care. Among them were two males, Malcolm and Brian, both in need of a safe, permanent home where they could thrive.
At the time, little was known about these foxes, and the road to rehoming them was far from easy. Many animal establishments were wary of taking on silver foxes, often mistakenly assuming they were wild melanistic foxes, which come with their own set of challenges. With limited knowledge and resources, some organisations felt unprepared to handle the responsibility of caring for these unique creatures.
Finding homes for exotic foxes in the UK can be a difficult task, and in the case of Malcolm and Brian, it seemed like a particularly uphill battle. However, we were determined to give these beautiful foxes the life they deserved, and so our search continued.
Then, a beacon of hope appeared. Our friends at Second Chance Animal Rescue in Kent, who had already provided a safe haven for numerous foxes over the years, stepped forward. They had the experience, the space, and, most importantly, the passion to care for Malcolm and Brian. In September 2017, the two foxes made their journey to Kent, where they finally found their forever home.
Before arriving at Second Chance Animal Rescue, Malcolm and Brian’s journey took a brief stop at a very special halfway point—the founder's father’s home. This pit stop, halfway along the route to Kent, was a crucial part of making the rehoming process possible. It allowed for a break during the long journey and gave the two foxes a chance to rest in a calm, secure environment before reaching their final destination. Without this brief stay, the logistics of transporting the foxes might have been far more difficult, but thanks to the founder’s family, Malcolm and Brian were able to continue their journey safely to the forever home that awaited them.
The transition to their new life was smooth, and the team at Second Chance Animal Rescue welcomed them with open arms. Malcolm and Brian quickly settled into their new environment, their playful personalities beginning to shine through as they explored their spacious enclosure and bonded with their caretakers. It wasn’t long before the once-uncertain future of these foxes transformed into one filled with love, care, and security.
Malcolm and Brian’s journey is one of hope, perseverance, and the joy that comes from finding the right people willing to give animals a second chance at life. It reminds us that, no matter how challenging the road ahead may seem, there is always the possibility of a happy ending—and in this case, two silver foxes found theirs.
At Black Foxes UK, we are endlessly grateful to Second Chance Animal Rescue and to everyone who supports our work in rehoming foxes like Malcolm and Brian. Their story continues to inspire us as we push forward in our mission to ensure that every fox, wild or captive, is given the love and care they deserve.
