Jasper, a middle-aged platinum silver fox, had spent his life surrounded by love and comfort in a private family home. A sweet and gentle soul, he was cherished by his family and had a constant companion—his fox girlfriend, who brought joy and companionship into his world. For years, Jasper thrived in this environment, content in the warmth of his home and the affection of his family.
But at the end of 2022, life took an unexpected turn when Jasper’s beloved companion passed away. Without her, he was left heartbroken and lonely. His family, despite their deep love for him, found themselves unable to devote the time and attention Jasper now needed to heal from his loss. They knew he deserved the very best and were determined to find him a new home where he could flourish once again. It was with heavy hearts that they turned to Black Foxes UK, seeking help to find a place where Jasper could rediscover companionship and happiness.
As fate would have it, the perfect opportunity was waiting. Our friends at Bucks Goat Centre had recently experienced a heartbreaking loss of their own. Their beloved cross fox, Barnaby, had tragically passed away under general anaesthesia, leaving behind an empty, newly built enclosure that was designed specifically with the care and comfort of a fox in mind. The centre, having previously sought advice from Black Foxes UK, was eager to provide the best possible care for a new fox and offer him a chance to thrive in a loving environment.
When we introduced Jasper’s story to the team at Bucks Goat Centre, it was clear that this was the home he was meant for. Jasper’s gentle nature and experience of living closely with humans made him an ideal fit for the centre, where he would not only have a large, secure enclosure but also the attention and care he so deeply deserved. He made the move in January 2023 and his new caretakers were committed to providing him with a life full of enrichment and love, and we were thrilled to play a part in this heartwarming match.
In the weeks following Jasper’s arrival, it became clear that he had found his new family. His days are now filled with exploration, interaction, and the companionship he had been longing for since the loss of his fox girlfriend. The team at Bucks Goat Centre has made Jasper’s happiness their priority, and in return, he has brought new life to the space that had been left empty after Barnaby’s passing.
Today, Jasper is thriving in his new home. Each year, Black Foxes UK visits the centre to give talks and continue supporting the dedicated care provided to Jasper. His story is a reminder that even in the face of loss, new beginnings can bring joy and comfort. Thanks to the love of his first family and the care of his new home, Jasper’s days are once again filled with happiness, and he is surrounded by the attention and affection he so deeply deserves.
Jasper’s journey from heartbreak to hope is a testament to the resilience of animals and the power of community in finding the best outcomes for these incredible creatures. We are proud to have played a part in ensuring that Jasper’s story continues with a happy and fulfilling chapter.
