At Black Foxes UK, we’re proud to share the tales of our rescue efforts, and few stories are as entertaining—and heart-wrenching—as that of Wilf and Kit, two silver foxes with a knack for escape! Their adventurous spirit kept everyone on their toes, turning each rescue into a race against time and the unpredictable whims of nature.
Originally hailing from Sale, Manchester, Wilf and Kit were rehome by Black Foxes UK in 2020, after their previous home became a little too adventurous for Dottie, their companion, who tragically lost her life due to an unidentified lungworm infection contracted during one of her escapades.
We had been advising the owners and urging an upgrade on their care since 2017, the continued escapes and Dottie's passing were a poignant reminder of the risks these foxes can face, but it also highlighted the importance of providing a safe haven for foxes like Wilf and Kit.
Rehomed to the picturesque setting of Burrow, Somerset at Animal Farm Adventure Park, we hoped the duo would settle in. But, true to their adventurous nature, Wilf had other plans. After a particularly wild storm knocked out the electric fencing at the animal park, Wilf made his daring escape. Panic ensued as the dedicated keepers sprang into action, determined to bring him back safely.
The search for Wilf became a local sensation, making headlines across the UK as people followed the story with bated breath. Fortunately, thanks to the tireless efforts of the keepers and the community’s support, Wilf was safely recaptured. This escapade wasn’t just a test of resilience; it also prompted the team to upgrade their enclosures significantly.
Inspired by Wilf and Kit’s story, the animal park took in several more foxes, showing how one rescue can lead to many more lives being transformed for the better.
While Wilf and Kit’s adventures continue to unfold, their story serves as a testament to the unpredictability of working with wildlife and the incredible bond between foxes and their human caretakers. Stay tuned for more success stories as we continue our mission to protect and rehome these amazing creatures!
